We are doing a little happy dance here at WebFix this week! The new WordPress 3.8 “Parker” was released at the beginning of the month and we’ve been updating sites all week to 3.8. This update affects the dashboard area of WordPress, areas most people never see!
Going with the trends in Website design the new interface is a responsive design making access to the dashboard easy for those of us (and you!) on the go. The dashboard has a “fresh, uncluttered design”, and is amazing when viewed on mobile devices. Gone are the days of zooming and pinching to make small changes to pages and posts from your mobile phone (and how many of us cringed at having to make changes this way?).
The new dashboard makes it easy to draft posts from the ‘quick draft feature’, it actually encourages you to want to post to your website/blog. There are also more options for color schemes and if you don’t like the options you can find more through the plugin Admin Color Scheme. Although, we are partial to the standard colors and clean-lines!
One glitch we noticed were the site stats working well on mobile but being slow to load on desktop applications, other than that it seems like a solid update.
“WordPress is Free and open source software, built by a distributed community of mostly volunteer developers from around the world.” Updates are now coming out fast and furious, rumor has it 3.9 will be out sometime in February.
Are you unsure of how the update will affect your custom theme or plug-ins? Why not reach out to us for a website review? We would be happy to give you a quote for a website check-up and perform a throughout website analysis with suggestions for you!
